Misc Personal stuff (books, movies, a few pics)

Page history last edited by Bill McEachen 10 years, 11 months ago

May 2013  VERY busy past 6+ months on new job etc.  Read a few good books (The Signal and the Noise, Blind Descent... about supercavers, and the new Sedaris book.  My son is now working his first job, Paige will do color guard.  Life overall is good.  Just submitted a new OEIS sequence A226095 today, interesting to me...Had trip to DC/Chicago over Easter and discovered some new family.

Nov 10 2012 I continue to dig the Strava app for Android.  Very well designed

Aug 24 2012 I have relocated from California to east of the Mississippi

Aug 9 2012 congrats to Michael C. (intern) on setting a new record for the time trial bike course of 21:20 !

I have just started fiddling with the Strava app and like it a lot - the north and south segments are declared for the time trial course.

As of now, the north direction lead time is 9:53 and the south 10:27.  The lead sum by same rider (though likely not continuous) is 20:53 (CTanner).  The next (3) I see are LOldstrong (21:45), KAbbas (22:29) and JTaylor (22:51).

Sept 5 2011 congrats to Michael C. (intern) for posting both the fastest raw bike and foot time in the 2011 time trial

July 11  I reach my 21-re aniversary w/ CCCSD within the week;

June 29 2011  add new TT marks for 2011

Sep 2010 eliminate some stale items; A few good quotes lying around the web:

"Everyone is a genius at least once a year. The real geniuses simply have their bright ideas closer together"  —Georg Christoph Lichtenberg

"Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny."   —Lao-Tze

Sep 12 2010 I closed a few gaps in my reading list (To Kill a Mockingbird, Diary of Anne Frank, Oil! and The Jungle); I also just read and enjoyed a book about a fella reading the Encyclopedia Britannica (The Know-It-All by AJ Jacobs, ISBN 0743250605).  I also just finished The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene.

I got my son to read Lord of the Flies and he is currently reading The Grapes of Wrath.

Apr 6 2009 read some great quotes from the FreeThinker Robert Ingersoll ... just got Derbyshire's Prime Obsession from PBS

Feb 2 2009  I posted an update to my Twin Primes page Twin Primes and Goldbach's Conjecture re: Bernoulli numbers (sums of products of integers etc).

Have also derived a "modern" list of Ethical Commandments:   Ethics2009.pdf     as part of a class I just took.  I tried to be fairly comprehensive, though many details for each would have to be in place for completeness.  There are 22 items (vs the orig Ten Commandments).  Send me feedback or questions but my time is limited.

7/11/2008 fiddling with BuzzDash; tested A047160 thru integers 4.29E9 w/o "-1"

6/16/2008 upload file for 2000/2004 election data; prep for symmetric prime narrative

5/20/2008 (gen'l cleanup) came across xcellent Univ Mich control site (open textbook)
